Northern Irish grown - Fresh seeds from this growing year

Irish Moss (Sagina subulata) also known as pearlwort, awl-leaf pearlwort, or Scottish moss.

Sagina plants grow well in Europe. Technically they are not a moss but a flowering plant member of the carnation family.

Irish moss is an excellent low growing ground cover. It is decorative and low maintenance and produces small white flowers from spring to late summer.

Areas where Planted:  The plants are mainly used as a lawn substitute and can also be planted in and around walkways, between paving stones, rockeries, sandy gravel borders, edging, paths and on walls.

Low Maintenance: Irish moss is evergreen becoming more compact in winter, ready for a burst of growth in spring. The plant quickly forms a dense mat of bright green, low growing evergreen foliage that can withstand light foot traffic.

Once established, these plants need very little attention with no trimming or cutting needed.

Habit: Irish moss forms a thick, dense mat with stems less than 10 cm long, and slender leaves up to 1 cm long. Soft and spongy to the touch. The plants are

hardy to about -15°C (5°F) and spread slowly.
